The Way. July 2020
This piece emerged and evolved quickly, I started with the main figure, its wings, and creating the rich tapestries within the curved triangles. Then I realized it was a dragon in flight, and I completed its head, wings, and tail. At the same time, I had wanted to do a piece that celebrated and honored the pilgrimage to Camino de Santiago. So, I did some research and came up with some symbols of the pilgrimage, the scalloped shell and the pointing cross – sword to mark the trail. So, the story that I think is being told here is Christian souls meet along this hike and form fellowships. They come into this fellowship under the mantel of Christ, here represented as the resplendent dragon. The souls are being dropped off on the upper right by the scallop shell become spaceship. The individuals float down to earth and are then joined under the wings of Christ for the pilgrimage. I must go someday, if only for a handful of miles, there is a deep reverence and romanticism for me with this pilgrimage.
