Standard Bearer – Arthur Pendragon. January 1976
This piece is very near and dear to my heart. They all are, but this is a sentimental favorite. It has an unusual history. It originated as two figures set with thirty-seven other figures drawn onto a large poster board of 30”x40”. I was in Dallas in 1976, and intended to enter my completed poster board with its 39 red and blue figures as my entry into an art contest celebrating America’s two hundredth birthday.
I did not make the deadline for submission. The board subsequently was tucked away yellowing for 44 years. I rediscovered it and digitized the poster board. I selected the key figure (the standard bearer), and developed it into a stand alone piece.
The “standard” portion of the title has two meanings, one that of setting a standard, and two a standard carried onto a battlefield denoting the units identity. The figure holding the standard is a knight, and it is none other than Arthur Pendragon (one of my heroes). The legendary King Arthur from Arthurian legend.
Standard Bearer – Arthur Pendragon is available as a metal giclée print and a fine art paper print. The metal giclée print is bonded to aluminum, with a hanging system attached to the back. The print surface is covered with a cleanable, scratch resist, polycarbonate film. Simply unpack and hang on your wall. The Fine art prints have a 1/2″ inch border on all sides and are an excellent choice if you are framing. Printed on 100% cotton, bright white, smooth texture, museum quality – 300 gsm bright White stock.
