Santorini Magic. Oct 2017
This is an interesting drawing from the standpoint of I drew it 11 months (Sept 2018) before I went to Santorini, and at a time I did not know I was going. It is only after returning that I realized what the drawing was about.
The drawing depicts an ancient priest of the island dancing a top the lava wave. He can do this because he is a priest and elemental like the lava. It is a celebration of the cataclysm and birth of the modern island of Santorini. The center of the island blew up (1600 BCE)
and left a caldera (fancy name for a crater) in the middle of the island, and a broken ring of islands along its periphery. The sides facing the interior of the island are steep cliffs for the most part. And the town of Oia is famously evolved building down in white along the cliffside.
A popular emblem of Greece is a spiral of blue and white, you can see one in the drawing.
I highly encourage a trip to Santorini, it is full of life and youth, and discovery. In short – “magic.”
