Humility and Triumph
01 Feb 2026 Update
Quote from Alex Honnold:
“Being by yourself on a huge, big wall, it just puts you in your place. But you also feel a part of something bigger.”
From the documentary “Valley Uprising” around 1:28.
I have expressed this humility and joining something greater differently. When I draw and am free to create and follow my intuition and judgment (free soloing up the wall). The result can be special and I realize that I am being guided and am very small in the scheme of all life, human history and the cosmos. Yet there is a largeness in the joining to the divine and infinite of creation. The humility and triumph can go hand in hand, we are both very, very small and in our joining very, very large.
The contrast figuratively is in one instance, where your size is taken against the enormity of life, earth and the cosmos. Where you are an infinitesimal speck in space and time.
And in the other instance, where you are joined to all of the enormity of life, earth and the cosmos and you’re infinite and timeless.
To go back to Alex’s references, in one instance you are very small against the wall you are climbing and in the other you are the wall and therefore part of something so much larger.
What is possible with Passion, Vision and Heart.
